Dr Frank Vinifera, 2009, Rkatseteli, Keuka Lake, NY

Dr Frank Vinifera, 2009, Rkatseteli, Keuka Lake, NY
Price: $15 per bottle

Light yellow color, citrus nose with some hints of pepper. The sip starts off with a sweetness then the acid kicks in. Grapefruit is the predominate taste with a ample amount of acid. The pepper shows up on the finish. We had this with a cold pasta, tomato, cucumber, mozzarella basil salad. The tomatos, cucumber and basil were fresh from our garden. The Rkatseteli added flavor to the meal while letting the freshness of the pasta salad come through.

Fulkerson, NV, Burntray, Finger Lakes, NY

Fulkerson, NV, Burntray, Finger Lakes, NY
Price: $11 per bottle

What is Burntray? We found this at Fulkerson Winery last spring. They say it is a blend of Noiret, a new hybrid and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The wine is a dark ruby red wine, there is some fruit on the nose. The first taste has graphite tones with some blackberry fruit. A fully body wine that could be matched with a steak or any hardier meal. We had this with an eggplant casserole, it went very well with the tomato sause based dinner. The wines tannins are present first the first sip to the finish. The tannins are ever present, but are mellow are provide for a nice drinking experience. I really liked this wine and the price point I will stop at Fulkerson just to purchase another bottle or two of Burntray.

Salmon Run, 2010, Riesling, Fingers Lakes, NY

Salmon Run, 2010, Riesling, Fingers Lakes, NY
Price: $12 per bottle

The wine has a straw yellow color. The nose has citrus and some floral on it. Fruity citrus and apple taste and a dry acid mineral finish. There is a little bit of effervescence in the wine, this increased the tingle sensation of the acid on the tongue. We purchased this wine while visiting Dr Frank's Vinifera last weekend. We were told that the Salmon Run brand are wines produced by Dr Frank's, but the grape were purchase rather then grown by Dr Frank. This is a semi dry wine that can be enjoy by it self, like my first half glass. I finished the glass with dinner, we had salmon and some broccoli. The wine went very well with this meal. This wine was good, but I believe there are some better Riesling to be found in the Finger Lakes

Leidenfrost Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007, Finger Lakes, NY

Leidenfrost Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007, Finger Lakes, NY
Price: $20 per bottle

Put the wine in the refrigerator for 20 minutes, then decanted it. The wine was a dark red color, I could not see thought the wine. Dark fruity and present on the nose. The dark fruit came thought on the first taste, with some nice tannins. I started drinking this while barbequing a couple of steaks. The cabernet was fine without food, but this was just wetting my whistle for the sirloin . Yes the juicy medium rare sirloin went well with this cabernet, the soft tannin when well with charred steak. I have heard the term 'chewy' for wine before, this wine had that characteristic.

Since the weather has been hot, I have been drinking a lot of whites. Therefore, I was very happy to open a fully body red and enjoy it with a steak. I have one more one these down stairs. We will drink it in the fall when it is a little cooler. Looking forward to going back to Leidenfrost Vineyards.

Fulkerson, 2009, Traminette, Finger Lakes, NY

Fulkerson, 2009, Traminette, Finger Lakes, NY
Price: $11 per bottle

Golden yellow color, with pear and apricot aroma. The pear and apricot flavor come through on the palette. The Traminette is a medium dry wine. Very nice to drink on a warm summer day. The acid on the after taste is refreshing, although not as crisp, as I would like. This is a good wine to drink without food, or with a light snack.

Traminette is an French American hybrid that is being developed by Cornell. It is related to Gewürztraminer and has similar taste. Several Finger Lakes wineries have Traminette, I will be looking for it again when visiting the wineries.
